A Bangladesh Free From Lymphatic Filariasis
May 13, 2023
In May 2023, Bangladesh became the 18th country to have achieved validation of elimination of lymphatic filariasis as a public health problem. Lymphatic filariasis is a neglected tropical disease (NTD) that can cause swollen extremities and lead to severe disfigurement and disability, as well as social and economic discrimination against those affected. Since 2011, USAID has supported the Government of Bangladesh in their efforts to eliminate lymphatic filariasis. USAID's Act to End NTDs | East program congratulates Bangladesh on their incredible success in eliminating lymphatic filariasis as a public health problem, ensuring a brighter and healthier future for all.
